Täbiau

The Easiest & Best Value Software for Small Businesses

Short on time? Our pick is Täbiau. It is the only tool here that gives you bookings, clients, quotes, invoices, contracts, forms, automation and an AI helper in one place, sets itself up for your trade, and starts simple. Try it free for 30 days. No card. No pressure.

Full disclosure: we make Täbiau, so you should expect us to like it. We have tried to be fair to everything else on this list, and to say plainly where another tool is the better choice for you.

Why this list exists

Running a small business means doing five jobs before lunch. Somebody has to answer the enquiry, find a gap in the diary, send the quote, get the contract signed, chase the invoice, and still do the actual work.

Most people end up stitching it together: a booking tool here, a spreadsheet there, a separate invoicing app, a folder of contract templates, and a lot of copying and pasting between them. It works, until it doesn't.

So we looked at the software small businesses actually use, and asked the same questions of each:

  • How easy is it? Can you be useful on day one, without a course?
  • What does it really cost? Not just the headline price: per-person fees, per-booking fees, and the extras you only find out about later.
  • Does it fit your trade? Or was it built for somebody else's?
  • How much does it do? Bookings, clients, money, paperwork, messages, automation.
  • Does it work where you work? On a desk, a tablet and a phone, and for businesses in the UK, Ireland, Europe and Australia.

Our ranking is our opinion, based on the questions above. Prices and plans change often, so we have deliberately not put figures in this table. Always check the current details on each company's own website before you decide.

1. Täbiau: the easiest, and the best value, for most small businesses

Best for: small businesses that want to run everything from one place, whatever their trade.

Täbiau keeps tabs on your business so you have more time to do your thing. It is built like a real business book, with a tab for each part of your work: Bookings, Calendar, Contacts, Planner, Jobs, Classes, Money, Contracts and Forms, and more besides. Open the tabs you need and put the rest away until you do.

Why it comes out on top

It sets itself up for your trade. Most software is generic, or built for one profession. Täbiau has Editions: pick Barbershop, Beauty & Nails, Dog Groomer, Florist, Tattoo Studio, Trades, Wedding Supplier, Photographer and more, and the whole app arrives set up the way that trade works. If your business doesn't fit one, you can build your own from scratch.

The Täbiau Library's Editions shelf, with an Edition for barbershops, beauty and nails, dog groomers, florists, tattoo studios, trades and more.
The Editions shelf in the Täbiau Library: a complete setup for one trade, ready in one go.

You choose how hard it is. Every other tool on this list gives you the full cockpit on day one, whether you want it or not. Täbiau has three Difficulty Levels: Rookie, Superstar and Game Changer. Start simple, and step up when you are ready. We leave the spice levels to the chicken shops.

It does the boring bits for you. Täbiau's Errands are small jobs the app runs in the background: a reminder before an appointment, a follow-up after a job, a chase for an unpaid invoice. You set the rule once and it just happens.

A Täbiau errand open, with its trigger and its actions explained in plain English.
Errands: set a rule once and let Täbiau run it, explained in plain English.

It looks after your team, too. A rota that shows who is in each day, time off you approve in a click, and Cover: when somebody is off sick, one press shows you exactly which bookings it affects before anything happens. The bigger plans go further, with one-click weekly rota planning and one-click re-assignment.

Täbiau's Cover screen, showing a florist off sick and the one booking nobody else can take.
Cover: somebody is off sick, and Täbiau shows you what it affects before anything is changed.

It comes with a helper. Tabi, the built-in AI assistant, can look things up, answer questions about your diary and your clients, and help you get things done. She runs on a European AI service, not an American one.

Tabi, the Täbiau AI helper, open on the Round-up with suggestions such as What is on today.
Tabi, your built-in AI helper, ready to look things up or get things done.

And it isn't all work. Running a business is a lot, and life is more than the to-do list. Switch on the Games tab and you have Tetris, Minesweeper, Word Detective and Xs & Os (against Tabi) for the five minutes you have earned, and a Panic Button that whisks you straight back to the Round-up if somebody walks in.

A game of Tetris in Täbiau's Games tab, with the score, the next piece and a Panic Button.
Games: Tetris, Minesweeper, Word Detective and Xs & Os, because life isn't all work. (The Panic Button takes you back to your Round-up.)

The Library is a shop for your business. Want more? Open the Täbiau Library and add what you need: an Edition for your trade, extra tabs such as a Label Maker, a Waiting List or a Sketchpad, packs of notable dates for your planner from countries around the world, and more. Everything arrives ready to use, and you can take it out again whenever you like.

It covers the whole job, not just the booking. Here is what is in the book:

Your clients and your conversations

  • Contacts with the custom fields, tags and statuses you choose, so you track what matters to your business, not ours
  • Two-way text and email, with every message to and from a client kept in one thread
  • A client area, in your branding, so clients can see their own details
  • Newsletters you design, send to the people you pick, and never leave Täbiau to do it
  • Review Guard, which helps stop one bad day becoming a bad review, and asks happy clients how it went

Your diary

  • Online bookings and gift vouchers, open 24/7 and landing straight in your diary
  • A calendar that finds a free slot in one click
  • Classes and workshops with a seat count and a waitlist that fills itself
  • A rota and one-click cover when somebody is off sick, for when you have a team
  • A yearly planner to lay out the whole year, and To-Do lists and boards for the jobs in between

Your money

  • Quotes, invoices and payments, including card payments and Direct Debit
  • Expenses, stock and the takings from your till (Quick Sale)
  • A simple online shop with stock tracked across online, counter and invoice sales
  • Bookkeeping built in, and Making Tax Digital ready for UK businesses

Your paperwork

  • Contracts you write once and clients sign online
  • Forms your clients fill in, on a link or on your own website, with answers that can go straight onto their record
  • Price lists and brochures one click away from any screen, while the client waits
  • Big files sent from a clean page in your branding, with a link that stops working when you say

Your time back

  • Errands: small jobs the app does in the background, like a reminder before an appointment, a follow-up after a job or a chase for an unpaid invoice. You can even connect other tools to them
  • Tabi, your AI helper, who answers questions about your diary and clients, can talk with you out loud, and will build an errand or a form template for you from a single sentence

Looking after you

  • Deleted Items, so nothing is gone for good
  • A record of who changed what, and two-factor sign-in
  • Roles and permissions for your team, so each person sees what they should
  • Täbiau School, short video lessons built in, and help balloons that explain things in plain English as you go

Switching from another tool? The import wizard tidies your file and brings your clients, bookings and invoices across, so you are not starting from a blank page.

It is made for where you are. Täbiau is built for businesses in the UK, Ireland, Europe and Australia, with your data kept in the UK and EU by a provider with no US ties.

Nothing is gone for good. Delete something by mistake and you can restore it from Deleted Items in one click.

It works wherever you are. Use it on your computer, your tablet or your phone. They share the same business, so what you change on one is there on the others.

It is genuinely good value. One app instead of five subscriptions. We don't run a marketplace, and we don't take a cut of your bookings or your sales. You choose a plan that fits you, and you can try everything free for 30 days, with no card before you spend a penny. See the plans.

Where it might not be for you

Täbiau is newer than some of the household names here, and if all you want is a card reader at a market stall, a payments-first tool will do that job with less to learn. But if you want one calm place to run the whole business, this is the one.

Our verdict: the easiest to get started with, and the best value once you add up what you would otherwise pay for.

2. Square

Best for: taking card payments in person and online.

Square Appointments' website.
Square Appointments' website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © Square.

Square is a household name for a good reason. Its card readers and till are simple and dependable, and it has grown to include appointments, invoices and a few extras around the edges. It even has a free booking option.

What it does well: payments, hardware and a straightforward point of sale. If your business is mostly selling things or taking payment on the spot, it is hard to beat for simplicity.

Where it can fall short for a service business: Square began with payments, and it shows. The booking and client tools are there, but they are not the heart of the product, and the picture changes as you add staff, locations and add-ons. If you also need contracts, detailed forms, classes or workflow automation, check carefully what is included and what means another tool. Card payments carry processing fees, so work out what that comes to for the way you take money.

Choose Square if payments are your main job. Choose Täbiau if you want the whole business in one place, with a till and payments as one part of it.

3. Dubsado

Best for: creatives and service professionals who enjoy building their own workflows.

Dubsado's website.
Dubsado's website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © Dubsado.

Dubsado is a favourite among designers, photographers, coaches and planners. Proposals, contracts, invoices, scheduling and a powerful workflow builder all live in one client management system, and once it is set up it can run a client from enquiry to thank-you on its own.

What it does well: flexibility. You can build almost any client journey you can imagine.

Where it can fall short: that flexibility costs time. Many users describe a learning curve and a lot of set-up before it starts saving you any, and you begin with a blank canvas rather than a ready-made setup for your trade. It is a client management tool first, so it is not a till and not a diary-first booking system.

Choose Dubsado if you like building systems and want to fine-tune every step. Choose Täbiau if you want it working on day one, with your trade's setup already done and automation (our Errands) you can switch on without building it from nothing.

4. HoneyBook

Best for: freelancers and creative studios who sell with proposals.

HoneyBook's UK website.
HoneyBook's UK website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © HoneyBook.

HoneyBook brings proposals, contracts, invoices, online payments and automation together, with a polished client experience. It is popular with event professionals, photographers and designers, and it now has versions for the UK, Canada and Australia as well as the US.

What it does well: the journey from enquiry to booked client, with a tidy, professional look.

Where it can fall short: it is built around projects and proposals, which suits some trades much more than others. If your day is a busy diary of appointments, classes, deliveries or a till and a shop, it is not where those live.

Choose HoneyBook if you sell higher-value projects by proposal. Choose Täbiau if you also need the diary, the till, classes, a rota or a shop, or you work in a trade beyond the creative studio.

5. Booksy

Best for: barbers, hair and beauty professionals.

Booksy's website.
Booksy's website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © Booksy.

Booksy is a business app built for barbers, stylists and salon owners, with scheduling, payments, client marketing and a marketplace of local clients looking for someone like you. It says every feature comes with every plan.

What it does well: it is focused. If you run a salon or barbershop, it speaks your language, and the marketplace can bring in new clients.

Where it can fall short: it is built for beauty, so if your business is anything else, you will be bending it to fit. Check what the marketplace and the per-person pricing add up to once you are busy. And as with most booking-first tools, quotes, contracts, forms and automation are not what it is known for.

Choose Booksy if you are in beauty and want a marketplace to find new clients. Choose Täbiau if you want your own bookings, your own clients and no marketplace between you. Our Barbershop and Beauty & Nails Editions are set up for exactly this.

6. Tave (now VSCO Workspace)

Best for: photographers.

VSCO Workspace's website, the home of Tave.
VSCO Workspace's website (tave.com now goes here). Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © VSCO.

Tave is now part of VSCO and goes by VSCO Workspace. It is studio management and a CRM for photographers and event professionals, taking you from lead to quote to invoice to booked session, with a booking calendar, quotes, invoices and follow-ups, and it advertises free help moving your data across from another CRM.

What it does well: it knows photography. If that is what you do, the language and the workflows will feel familiar.

Where it can fall short: it is made for photographers and event pros, so it is the wrong shape for a florist, a groomer, a tattoo artist or a tradesperson. And if you do photography alongside another line of work, you will need something else for the rest.

Choose VSCO Workspace (Tave) if you are a photographer and nothing else. Choose Täbiau if you want a tool that works for photography and for the other things you do, with Editions for portrait studios and for wedding photographers and videographers.

7. Light Blue

Best for: photographers who want a long-established studio management tool.

Light Blue's website.
Light Blue's website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © Light Blue.

Light Blue calls itself the photographer's business hub: contacts, shoots, quotes, sales, payments, an inbox, a calendar and charts of your income, and it has a loyal following among photographers.

What it does well: it is built around how photography studios work, from enquiry to final order.

Where it can fall short: like Tave, it is designed for photographers, so it is not a fit if your business is something else, and a generalist small business will find it narrower than they need. If you want extras such as a built-in AI helper, an online shop, classes or a rota, check whether it offers them.

Choose Light Blue if you are a photographer and like what it does. Choose Täbiau if you want one tool for photography and everything else you do.

8. Fresha

Best for: salons, spas and barbers who want to start without a monthly fee.

Fresha's website.
Fresha's website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © Fresha.

Fresha offers appointment booking for salons, spas and barbershops, with a marketplace and a pricing model built around payment processing and marketplace fees rather than a standard subscription.

What it does well: it is easy to start, and it is aimed squarely at beauty and wellness.

Where it can fall short: because the business model comes from fees on payments and on marketplace clients, it pays to check what that adds up to once you are busy. It is beauty-focused, and it is not designed to cover contracts, forms or automation across other kinds of business.

Choose Fresha if you are a beauty business happy with a marketplace model. Choose Täbiau if you want a predictable plan, your own bookings and a tool that goes beyond the appointment book.

9. Acuity Scheduling

Best for: businesses that only need online booking.

Acuity Scheduling's website.
Acuity Scheduling's website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © Acuity Scheduling.

Acuity is a dependable scheduling tool: clients pick a time that suits them, you take payment, and it automates the busywork around appointments such as reminders.

What it does well: scheduling, and it does it cleanly.

Where it can fall short: it is scheduling first. It is not a client record that grows with the relationship, and not a place for your quotes, contracts, jobs and the rest of your business, so most people end up adding more tools around it.

Choose Acuity if you only need a booking page. Choose Täbiau if you want the booking page, and everything that happens before and after it.

10. 17hats

Best for: solo freelancers who want a simple toolkit.

17hats' website.
17hats' website. Screenshot taken October 2026. Image © 17hats.

17hats is a CRM and small business management tool for freelancers and very small businesses, with leads, quotes, invoices, contracts, scheduling, automated workflows and a client portal.

What it does well: it keeps the basics for a one-person business in one place.

Where it can fall short: it is built for freelancers, not for a business with a shop front, a till, classes or a team rota. It is also a US company, so check how it handles UK VAT, local payment methods and support hours before you rely on it.

Choose 17hats if you are a solo freelancer with straightforward needs. Choose Täbiau if you expect to grow, or already have more going on.

Frequently asked questions

What is the easiest software for a small business to use?

For most small businesses, Täbiau. It sets itself up for your trade with an Edition, and its Difficulty Levels (Rookie, Superstar and Game Changer) let you start with only what you need and add more as you grow. Tools built for one profession can be easy too, but only if that profession is yours.

What is the best value software for a small business?

The best value is usually the tool that replaces several others. Add up what you pay today for booking, invoicing, contracts, forms, text messages and newsletters, and compare it with one plan that does all of it. Watch for per-person fees, marketplace fees and commissions on top of the headline price. Täbiau doesn't take a cut of your bookings or sales, and you can try everything free for 30 days with no card.

Is there an alternative to Booksy that isn't just for beauty?

Yes. Täbiau handles online bookings, a client record, text and email, payments and more for barbers and beauty professionals, but also for florists, dog groomers, tattoo artists, tradespeople, wedding suppliers, photographers and many others.

What is a good alternative to Dubsado?

If you like what Dubsado does but want less set-up, Täbiau gives you forms, contracts, quotes, invoices and automation that is ready to switch on, with an Edition that arrives already set up for your trade.

Is there a good alternative to Tave (VSCO Workspace) or Light Blue for photographers?

Täbiau has Editions for portrait studios and for wedding photographers and videographers, and it also covers the rest of your business, which photography-only tools do not.

Is Täbiau only for businesses in the UK?

Täbiau is built for the UK, Ireland, Europe and Australia, and keeps your data in the UK and EU. Making Tax Digital support is for UK businesses.

Do I need a card to try Täbiau?

No. You can try everything free for 30 days with no card and no pressure.

Can I change my mind later?

Yes. You can change your Difficulty Level as you grow, switch tabs on and off, and nothing you delete is gone for good: you can restore it from Deleted Items.
